Brewing Directions for Obubu Sencha:

Because Obubu's senchas are so fresh and they use whole leaves, you will get much more flavor from this tea. Therefore, it is important to start with a low temperature water and short brewing time to avoid bitterness.

Use one teaspoon of tea, one half cup hot water (155°-175° F). Brew for 30 seconds to 3 minutes and pour out every drop of tea. You can reuse your tea leaves for two more brews by adding boiling water to the leaves and serve immediately. You will achieve a different taste every time.

After the third brew, the leaves will have fully opened and will be very tender. As a special Japanese treat, you can drizzle the leaves with a bit of soy sauce and sprinkle katsuobushi (dried fish flakes) on top and eat the leaves.

Brewing Directions for Houjicha, Genmaicha & Bancha:

These teas can be brewed simply by steeping in boiling water for 30 to 60 seconds depending on your preference. Until you decide what brew time is best for you, please be sure to check your tea every 30 seconds so you do not overbrew the leaves and distort the taste. Start by using 1 teaspoon of tea to 6 ounces of water. Adjusting the water temperature will allow different flavors of the teas to emerge, but again because this tea is so fresh, it will become bitter if overbrewed.
